Ongole: The Communist leaders including CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna, district secretary M L Marayana, CPM east Prakasam district secretary Punati Anjaneyulu, CPM central committee members V Srinivasa Rao and Y Venkateswara Rao announced that they will launch an agitation for the development of Prakasam district. They demanded Rs 10,000 crores for the development and completion of projects in the district.

Speaking at the meeting held by the CPI, CPM, Jana Sena, BSP and other public bodies, Ramakrishna said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu or any TDP leader in the district has no moral right to seek for votes and described the BJP and YSRCP as irresponsible parties.

He said the Prakasam district was a backward district with 23 per cent of SCs and 4 per cent of STs and 80 per cent of land in the district was dependent on rain for agriculture. He alleged the government neglected the district and didn’t completed the Veligonda project and and it did not send the consent letter in support of Ramayapatnam port yet.

He said no promises made by the TDP for the district are implemented till now and the party leaders including the Chief Minister has no moral right to solicit votes in the next elections. Ramakrishna asked Naidu that how come he forgets the development of backward districts while he is fighting for special category status.

He said the BJP had cheated AP while the YSRCP was doing nothing but making allegations on TDP. He asked the public to support the alternate political parties that work for them.

V Srinivasa Rao said that it is the time to break the domination of two parties and support new parties. He said for all-round development and social justice, the public should support alternate political system.

He said though Naidu and Jagan are from backward districts, they are not working for their development. If the Rs 2,000 crores sanctioned for Godavari Pushkarams were spent in the district, the Veligonda project might have been completed early, he pointed out.

The meeting passed 17 resolutions made in favour of the development of Prakasam district including demand for allotment of Rs 10,000 crores for the completion of projects and development activities and inclusion of district in backward districts list at Central government.
