Nellore: Leading forging major Bharat Forge Ltd has grounded the works for setting up its component hub in Nellore district. The company recently performed bhoomi puja and commenced works in 100 acres land which the Nellore administration has allotted.

The unit will come up at Mambattu in Tada mandal close to Tamil Nadu border. "We are expecting works to be completed within a year," said an official of the district administration.

Baba Kalyani, CMD, Bharat Forge, announced during the inaugural session of CII partnership summit in Vizag in January 2016 that it would set up an integrated auto component hub and signed two memoranda of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government for expanding its footprint in the state.

While one MoU is for an integrated auto hub in Nellore, the other is for a multi-modal manufacturing unit in Anantapur. Even though the company had announced details of the proposed unit in Nellore, and there is no much information about multi-modal manufacturing facility for industrial, defence and aerospace spare parts in Anantapur.

Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), the Pune-based Indian multinational is a technology driven global leader in metal forming, automotive, power, oil and gas, construction and mining, locomotive, marine and aerospace.

It is part of Kalyani Group – a $ 2.5 billion conglomerate. The world's largest forging company with manufacturing facilities spread across India, Germany, Sweden, France and North America, Bharat Forge manufactures a wide range of high performance, critical and safety components for the automotive and non-automotive sector. The infrastructure in the district is suitable for investors.

There is a port in Krishnapatnam in the district and Chennai port too is not very far off. This apart, Chennai and Tirupati airports are also closeby. The district is well connected to railways. “A simple ritual at the site has been conducted some time ago and we are expecting works of Bharat Forge to quicken,” said K Venkateswara Rao, Zonal Manager, APIIC, Nellore.
