Nellore: City MLA and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Dr P Anil Kumar Yadav demanded the Corporation authorities to replace pipelines that are supplying contaminated drinking water to the city residents. He staged a protest in front of the Nellore Municipal Corporation on Monday and raised slogans on negligence of the authorities.

Speaking to the media, City MLA Anil said that the residents of Santhapeta, Ranganayakulapeta, Janda Street and also other colonies have been getting contaminated water coupled with bad odour. In some parts, people were getting greenish water with mud particles, he stated.

“Even though, we had requested the authorities to replace the pipelines in Ranganayakula area and also in some localities for supplying pure drinking water, officials had failed to resolve the issue. Even some residents of Bhagat Singh Colony and Janardhan Reddy Colony were also not getting water on a regular basis,” the MLA said.

Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana and Mayor Abdul Aziz promised that the residents of the city would get Ozonised water. But, he said, they failed to do it. Legislator Anil also said that groundwater levels in Balaji Nagar and in some areas fell drastically.

No measures have been taken up by the civic authorities so far to provide safe drinking water, he criticised. Anil also demanded to store water in Sarvepalli canal for few days for increasing groundwater levels in Balaji Nagar and some other localities.

Anil Kumar alleged that the TDP leaders in the city had only confined to collecting commissions from the contractors. He warned that they would launch stir in front of the Corporation Office if authorities fail to provide filtered drinking water on a regular basis. Later, the MLA handed over a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner Sk Alim Basha.
