Tirupati: As part of Simulation week, SVIMS commissioned phase II set of simulators and conducted a training workshop using the best of the breed, high-end SIM MAN (3G). At a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, SVIMS commissioned high fidelity adult, birthing & newborn simulators along with mannequins for various procedures, examination models & debriefing systems.

“The core of the programme is designed around innovation in education, skill development, team training in order to improve quality in many realms and assess impact on outcomes in patient safety,” announced SVIMS Director Prof TS Ravikumar, who was the architect behind ‘safe practices save lives’ model that has been getting high acclaim.

He thanked the donors of Sri Balaji Arogya Varaprasadini Scheme that enabled development of simulation programme and purchase of all the simulators. “This changes the post paradigm of learning while caring for the patient, into the new paradigm of the health care provider being ready to provide optimal care for the patient after the learning curve in the simulator,” he opined.

SVIMS has focused on developing a world-class simulation centre, termed SVIMS Simulation System (S3), housed in Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women in SVIMS Campus. SVIMS Simulation System is first of its kind in government sector in Andhra Pradesh with high fidelity simulators.

The Phase I of S3 was inaugurated in February 2018, equipped with all basic simulators, purchased at a cost of Rs 51.5 lakh to conduct skills training in BLS, ACLS, PALS, Airway management etc., On this occasion, Dr Ravikumar thanked Laerdal Foundation, who is the supplier of all simulation equipment to SVIMS, for donating high-end simulators for various procedures as part of their corporate social responsibility. Laerdal Foundation also supplied more than 200 limited use mannequins in the first phase for conducting community CPR training at free of cost.
