Construction of major port at Ramayapatnam demanded

Ongole: The Prakasam District Development Forum and Andhra Pradesh Vidyarthi JAC demanded that the state government stop step-motherly treatment towards Prakasam district.
The state government should ask the Union government to construct major port and ship building centre at Ramayapatnam, they suggested. They alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is trying to help Krishnapatnam port by announcing a minor port instead of major port at Ramayapatnam and damaging the employment opportunities of local youth.
Ongole former MP YV Subba Reddy alleged that the state government is neglecting the backward and drought-hit Prakasam district and is not allocating Rs 1500 crore to complete the Veligonda project.
He said that when all agencies submitted reports in favour of the major port at Ramayapatnam, the state government issued the GO No 28 to construct minor port.
He said that if it is a major port, the Central government provides 75 per cent funds and the burden on the state reduces and also it provides lakhs of direct and indirect jobs. He said that the major port also helps for the development of Donakonda Industrial Corridor and NIMZ at Kanigiri, if they are realised.
Former minister Vadde Sobhanadreswara Rao said that the employment opportunities for the local youth are depended on the establishment of major port and ship building centre at the Ramayapatnam.
He said that if the Union government takes up the construction of major port, it provides 4.5 lakh jobs to the local youth. He advised the state government to heed to the demand of the public and ask the Central government to construct major port and ship building centre at Ramayapatnam, instead of Dugarajapatnam.
