Ongole: Tension prevailed at Eethamukkala in Kothapatnam mandal when a mob surrounded a house to kill a man and attacked police for stopping them and the scribes for covering the incident.

According to Additional SP Lavanya Lakshmi, police personnel and villagers, Dasari Venkata Krishna, a youth from the village was in love with a minor girl from the same village.

Initially, their families didn’t agree to their love but they promised that they would perform their marriage on September 20. In the meantime, the family of the girl settled another match and convinced her to marry him. On learning about the marriage arrangements of his lover, Venkatakrishna sent the photos of the girl that were taken with him to the family members of the new alliance and in turn, they cancelled the marriage.

The girl attempted suicide three days ago but after undergoing treatment she recovered. The uncle of the girl, Hari Babu, who is said to have a crime record, met Venkatakrishna on Tuesday and warned him of with dire consequences. Due to the fear and pain of losing his lover, Venkatakrishna committed suicide on Tuesday night.

Learning about the death of Venkatakrishna, the villagers attacked the house of the girl and burnt a motor cycle. They reached the house of the girl’s uncle and surrounded it till evening. In the meantime, the police tried to convince the villagers, but they attacked the police and the media also. The Additional SP Lavanya Kumari and other police personnel reached Eethamukkala and brought the situation under control.

Police announced that they will register cases against the family members of the girl for abetting Venkatakishna to commit suicide and took the uncle of girl into custody after setting up of a picket in the village.
