Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) is constructing a central library on the varsity premises at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore. SVVU Vice-Chancellor Y Haribabu took the varsity board approval for establishing central library with state-of-the-art facilities.

The varsity authorities have handed over construction work to the engineering wing of the AP School Education department. Even though, the SVVU was set up in 2005 here, there was no central library for the benefit of students pursuing courses in veterinary science, fisheries and dairy technology. The architecture of central library building was designed by Singapore-based consultants.

The ultra-modern library to come up in 20,622 square feet. It would have advanced facilities like digital computer library wing, lift, air-conditioning and racks for books, journals and magazines. To prevent theft of books and other material, the library officials would introduce anti-theft technology for reference books. This digital strip placed inside a book would alert the staff if anyone tries to steal it from the library.
