Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam was selected, along with Varanasi and Muzaffarpur, by the Union Ministry of Commerce to examine and study the growth rate in primary, secondary and territory sectors in the past five years and expected the growth rate in the next five years.

The ministry directed the Central Committee to visit field-level and study the ongoing works in agriculture, horticulture, hospitality and other sectors.
Dr Ajit Prasad, Director, IIM Lucknow, along with his team arrived in the city here on Wednesday and held discussions with the district administration.

As a part of the study, he said that his team would visit the villages and take the feedback from the stakeholders and also present in the group discussions to assess the implementation of the Central and State government schemes.

While interacting with the team, Joint Collector G Srujana informed that the administration is achieving the targets in industries, agriculture, fisheries and horticulture. The service sectors, health, education, transport, tourism, tribal arts, heritage, and pharma played a vital role in increasing the GDP, she added.

The Joint Collector urged the Central team to visit the agency area to examine the growth rate in the agency area. General Manager of District Industries Centre (DIC) Ramalinga Raju explained that the growth of industries, livestock, agriculture and fishing sectors was good in the district. Service sectors, including trade, road transport, real estate, education sectors, are also developing in the district, he explained.
