Vijayawada: The officials of the department of legal metrology registered four cases against fertilizer shops for collecting more than MRP and eight cases against farmers for using outdated and faulty weighing machines.

The officials conducted raids on Rythu Bazaars in Nandigama, Kanchikacharla and fertilizer shops in Gudivada, Bantumilli and Machilipatnam.

Assistant controller of legal metrology department PSRN Swamy said the traders and farmers are violating basic norms.

In Vijayawada zone, legal metrology officers, along with the officials of vigilance and enforcement department, registered 13 cases at Rythu Bazaars in Nandigama and Kanchikacherla for using faulty weighing machines which were not verified and stamped by the legal metrology department.

In Gudivada, the officials conducted raids on fertilizer shops and registered two cases for selling neem coated urea bags at an excess price.

Cases were registered against Naga Venkata Satya Trading Company, Bantumilli. The MRP of the bag was Rs 266.50 but the trader sold it for Rs.290.00 i.e; Rs 23.50 excess price.

The second case was registered against Vijayalakshmi Fertilizers, Mudinepalli. The MRP was Rs 266.50 but the trader sold for Rs 280 i.e; Rs.13.50 excess price.

Legal metrology officer Rajendra Prasad conducted raids on fertilizer shops in Machilipatnam and registered two cases for selling fertilizer for an excess price of Rs.13-50 more than MRP on each urea bag.
