Education not solely meant for employment: Venkaiah

Tirupati: “Providing jobs to every educated person will be very difficult and they should learn to stand on their own with entrepreneur skills. Education is not for employment but to acquire knowledge,” observed the Vice-President of India M Venkaiah Naidu. 

Addressing the students at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) here on Tuesday which celebrated its 29th anniversary. The students, who were being educated in reputed institutions, should become the torch bearers of tomorrow and pass on the rich cultural legacy of the nation to future generations. Several freedom fighters and legends have worked in BVB founded by Prof Munshi. The campus in Tirupati resembles a ‘Gurukula’ for which TTD and state government have provided land, he said.

Tradition and culture should go hand in hand along with education, Venkaiah said, added that the country has 65 per cent youth and everyone has an inbuilt talent. He stated the country will stand beside developed nations by becoming the powerful financial country as envisaged by World Bank, World Economic Forum, Asian Development Bank reports.

He advised the students to read the literature of Swamy Vivekananda, Vemana and Sumathi Sathakas and warned them not to become slaves of watching movies in theatres and various programmes in television channels. Students will inculcate discipline and practice high values if wisdom and values practiced by ancient saints and visionaries when incorporated in the present Indian education system, he said. 

The Vice-President mentioned that the Tirupati has developed as a hub for education with Indian Culinary Institute, IIT, IISER and several universities. He called upon the students to be involved in Swachh Bharath, plastic ban, plantation drive and develop love towards mother tongue.

During his visit to the BVB, the Vice-President also visited the science exhibition in which exhibits prepared by its students were displayed. Minister for Industries N Amaranatha Reddy, BVB Director Satyanarayana Raju, IIT Director Prof K Satyanarayana, Chittoor Collector PS Pradyumna, MLA M Suguna and others were present.
