Ongole: The police should refrain from restraining the Palle Palleku Dr Ambedkar Chaitanya Rathayatra and let All India Dalit Rights Federation (AIDRF) continue creating awareness on the atrocities being done on the SC/STs all over the country, demanded the AIDRF, Bahujana Aikyavedika and other public fronts, at a press meet held in Ongole on Wednesday.

The AIDRF national president, Kandula Ananda Rao, its AP executive president Bethala Sudarsanam, media secretary Revulagadda Hari Kiran and Bahujana Aikyavedika member Kurapati Vijayaraju participated in the press meet at the Ongole Press Club and said that the All India Dalit Rights Federation started an awareness programme on atrocities on dalits on October 15 covering the villages from Rapur in Nellore district to Guntur.

Since the starting of the tour, they said that the police department were trying to create numerous obstacles by arresting the leaders of the AIDRF and others supporting them.

They alleged that the police were neglecting their duty to create awareness on atrocities as per the Prevention of Atrocities on SC/STs Act 1989 and harassing them, who were doing the job instead of them.

They said that the government was resorting to immoral and cowardice acts to stop spreading the Ambedkar theology into the weak and oppressed sections.

They suggested the dalits and bahujan to become unite and vote for their candidates only in 2019 and asked the public to make the closing ceremony of Rathayatra and meeting by the AIDRF in Ongole on October 20 a success.
