Tirumala: On the seventh day of Srivari Navaratri Brahmotsavams at Tirumala, the processional deity Sri Malayappa Swamy took a celestial ride atop the bright Surya Prabha Vahanam on Tuesday morning.

Malyappa adorned with dazzling ornaments placed on tastefully decorated Surya Prabha Vahanam surging on the four mada streets around the shrine, feasted the eyes of devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the Vahana Seva, one of the important events of Brahmotsavams.

Surya, the Sun God, who is the key architect of life of humans, animals and plants became the charioteer to drive the Surya Prabha Vahanam for Sri Malayappa Swamy who cheered the devotees as Surya Narayanamurthy.

According to Puranic texts Surya, the Sun God always rode on a chariot driven by seven horses. He spreads light and health in the world and also removes darkness, which symbolises poverty, illiteracy and ignorance.

Saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharyat praises Venkatewswara as no other than the Sun God in the midst of the Sun’s Sphere. TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal, Tirumala JEO KS Sreenivasa Raju, In-charge CVSO Sivakumar Reddy, Temple Dy EO Haridranath and others were present.
