Police will deal strictly with criminals, anti-social elements, says DGP

Vijayawada: Director General of Police (DGP) R P Thakur said on Saturday that the police department would deal very strictly with the criminals and anti-social elements in the State.
He said the department officials would review the law and order situation every day and it has been trying to ensure full protection to the people.
In connection with the Police Martyrs' Commemoration Day to be observed in the State on October 21, he released a statement on Saturday giving details of measures being taken by the police department for the welfare of the police personnel and efforts of the police to maintain law and order in the State.
Thakur said construction works of 25 model police stations in the State would be completed next year and seven cyber police stations were already constructed in the State at a cost of Rs.16 crore to deal with the cyber crimes.
Referring to the policing, he said the department was trying to ensure implementation of friendly policing in the State.
He said the police would get more information with the friendly policing system. He felt the police could do more and serve more when they mingle with the people and it will enhance the image of the police in the society.
Referring to welfare and fitness of police, he said wellness and fitness centres were being opened in all the districts and efforts were being made for the welfare of home guards.
He said 440 police personnel lost their lives in the duty across India last year and six of them from Andhra Pradesh.
He said the State police spent Rs 3.85 crore for the welfare of the police martyrs families in the State last year.
He said many programmes were conducted in the State by the police department during the last one week in view of the Police Martyrs' Commemoration Day to be observed on October 21.
