Chittoor: A protest was staged in front of Chittoor Co-operative Milk Dairy here on Thursday, demanding its revival with an immediate effect. Farmers and employees of the locked out of Chittoor Co-operative Dairy took part in dharna.

Addressing the agitating farmers and employees, District Dairy Farmers Union President Venkatachalam Naidu alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and district TDP leaders were responsible for the closure of Chittoor Dairy to benefit the Heritage Dairy owned by Bhuvaneswari, wife of Chandrababu.

He asked Chandrababu why Chittoor Dairy became defunct when it was procuring 3 lakh litres of milk per day and all other private dairies were making profits. He expressed anguish that 1,200 employees have lost their livelihood due to defunct dairy unit and leading miserable lives.

CITU District President Nagarajan came down heavily on Naidu for forcing co-operative institutions run into losses by encouraging the private sector.

He stated YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy had promised to take immediate steps for revival of Chittoor Dairy and Chittoor Sugar factory. The CITU leader warned of intensifying protest if it was not opened. Leaders of various political parties took part in protest.
