For the women of the royal family and members of the public alike, no formal look is complete without a hat to top it off.

Royal protocol dictates that women must wear hats to all official occasions. It's a stipulation that dates back to before the 1950s, when upper class and royal women rarely showed their hair in public. British (and royal) wedding etiquette dictates that women should wear hats or fascinators to a wedding. Back in 2011, Princess Beatrice nearly stole the spotlight at Will and Kate's wedding with an utterly memorable fascinator. At Pippa Middleton's 2017 nuptials, there was a fabulous show of bold and bright hats.

The royal wedding 2.0 has come and gone. As of Saturday morning, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially married, after their lovely and fancy ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. While we’re still buzzed by Meghan’s custom Givenchy dress and the sight of Prince Harry biting his lip when looking at his new wife, we’re also slightly-to-completely obsessed with another thing we witnessed during the royal nuptials — by that we mean, guests dressed in extremely on-brand British wedding hats.

What we saw was an overload of gorgeousness as women wore some of the finest hats in a variety of styles.

From Queen Elizabeth’s lime green and purple concoction to Princess Beatrice’s surprisingly subdued chapeau, here are some of the best (and most bizarre) hats from the royal wedding.

AMAL CLOONEY: Amal wears a head piece by Stephen Jones.

OPRAH WINFREY: The mogul accessorized her blush Stella McCartney dress with an ivory hat.

KITTY SPENCER: Princess Diana's niece wears a striking green headpiece, complete with small veil.

PRINCESS EUGENIE OF YORK: Princess Eugenie's white pillbox hat was rather understated compared to her over-the-top fascinator at Will and Kate's wedding in 2011.

PIPPA MIDDLETON: Kate Middleton's sister, who is reportedly pregnant, arrives with her husband James wearing a light pink fascinator to go with her mint green floral dress

ABIGAIL SPENCER AND PRIYANKA CHOPRA: Two of Meghan's close friends from Hollywood both showed up with elegant toppers.

JULIA CAREY: James Corden's wife wore a dainty pink topper.

PATRICK J. ADAMS AND TROIAN BELLISARIO: Pretty Little Liars actress Bellisario wore a longsleeve beige dress with shoulder embellishments and a sweet hat and veil.
