The US-spec 2017 Hyundai Elantra sedan has received Top Safety Pick Plus rating in the IIHS’ (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety) crash tests. The Top Safety Pick Plus is the maximum rating offered by IIHS and is applicable only for Elantra’s that made after March 2016.

The car has performed very well across the five categories of the crash test – roof strength, head restraints, moderate overlap frontal collision, side impact and the challenging small overlap frontal collision.

In the small overlap collision, the new Elantra registered a maximum intrusion into the occupant space of 2 inches compared to 9 inches in the case of older car. The safety rating is further enhanced by optional frontal crash prevention system which is capable of avoiding crashes under slow speeds and mitigating the damage at higher speeds.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra has been testing in India for the last few months. The latest version of the entry level D Segment sedan is slated for its Indian debut in the festive season (September to November).

The India-spec version is expected to be powered by the existing 1.6-litre diesel engine and a new 2.0-litre petrol engine. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be available.

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra with an all-new styling will target the Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze, VW Jetta and Renault Fluence.
