Ford is an American brand. Its F-150 pick-up has been the USA’s best-selling vehicle since Bob Dylan first spilt ‘Blood on the Tracks’. But here's a thing: in India, Ford has an equal emotional pull, with deep industrial roots, and all sorts of popular culture tendrils.

Most of all, though, Ford meant affability and performance, the sort that never required a secret Swiss bank account to buy into. We aren’t talking about the GT or Focus or even the F-150, we are talking about the type of emotions attached to the Ikons, Escorts and even the Fiestas.

These were cars that defined the brainchild of Henry Ford in India. When the Everest added onto the stables of Ford, it made a mark in the segment it entered.

The archipelago of Ford when reached India, had to change the name of the car Of course! We love masalas more. Christened as the Endeavour (with a ‘U’, because we were once a British colony), the car did carve a niche for itself.

Now, the 2016 update ticks all the right boxes well, and stands tall and trump against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Chevy Trailblazer and even the MitsubishiPajero Sport.

Why do we say that? Because, Ford India organised its marquee ‘Great Ford Endeavour Drive’ at the mother of all off-roading tracks, Area 56 Motorsports in Keesara,on Sunday, to give a first-hand experience of its premium true, blue SUV’s best-in-class off-roading capabilities.

The experiential drive, set amidst natural terrain on the outskirts of the city, simulated challenging off-roading conditions including -- sharp turns, steep hill climbs & hill descent, wading through slush, uneven surfaces, driving at a 30-degree tilt among others. We experienced the exceptional ride quality and dynamic handling of this capable premium SUV.

“The Ford Endeavour has been setting new benchmarks with it's versatile on-road and capable off-road performance since its launch. Thanks to the unmatched versatility, the Ford Endeavour is loved by customers and driving enthusiasts alike and has become the most awarded vehicle in its category,” said Rahul Gautam, vice president, Marketing, Ford India.

The premium SUV offers two powerful and fuel efficient engines Ford DuratorqTDCi 2.2L & 3.2L diesel engines mated to robust six-speed automatic or manual transmissions for exceptional capability. The one chosen for the experience drive was the 3.2L, 6-speed AT.

The car features several first-in-class and best in segment features, including an advanced Terrain Management System with four preset modes to conquer any terrain with great ease, an impressive water-wading capacity of 800 mm, globally renowned in-car connectivity system SYNC 3 with multifunction touchscreen, premium dual tone interiors with sun-roof, and Semi Auto Parallel Park Assist that helps locate the right sized parking spot and steers the SUV effortlessly to reduce anxiety.

Packed with outstanding power, unmatched quality and value, the Endeavour gains from Ford’s five-decade long global expertise in designing and delivering SUVs that have been loved by customers across the world.
