Mitsubishi will launch the third generation Pajero Sport SUV here in India in April 2018. The new Pajero Sport will be a direct rival to the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The 2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, like earlier, is built on a strong ladder-frame chassis and is based on the Triton light pick-up truck.

Lookswise, the new Pajero Sport has grown in terms of dimensions. The oodles of chrome thrown in on the front bumper immediately catches one’s attention and is reminiscent of the Mitsubishi Outlander. The grille too is finished in chrome and Mitsubishi calls it ‘Dynamic Shield’. It also features bi-LED projector headlamps.

The 2018 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has gained an additional length of 90 mm and this is evident when one looks at the sides of the SUV but the wheelbase remains unchanged. The large squared wheel arches and the black finished alloy wheels add character to the side. At the rear, the quirky shape of the tail-lamps needs some time getting used to and the shallow bumper comes across as a boon while off-roading.

Interiors feature the same dashboard as in the outgoing Pajero Sport but Mitsubishi has made the dashboard look more upmarket. There is also a large touchscreen infotainment system with all the necessary connectivity options. The centre console, steering wheel and door pads have loud chrome highlights.

The India-spec Pajero Sport will come powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that puts out 181 HP and 430 Nm of torque. This motor will come paired to an four-speed automatic gearbox. Mitsubishi will also offer an updated version of the Super Select four-wheel drive system and an electric handbrake too.

The currently selling Pajero Sport retails for around Rs. 28 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) which puts it in the same league as the top-end Ford Endeavour and we are yet to know how exactly will Mitsubishi price the new Pajero Sport.
