Volkswagen Passat India production starts
Volkswagen has announced the start of production of the Passat at its Aurangabad facility, in Maharashtra. The eigth generation Passat (B8) will be the first sedan from the Volkswagen stable to be based on the MQB platform.

The eigth generation Passat (B8) will be the first sedan from the Volkswagen stable to be based on the MQB platform. The vehicle will be launched next month. Volkswagen sold the sixth and seventh generation Passat in India but discontinued the D-segment sedan in December 2013.
The 2017 Volkswagen Passat has grown in terms of dimensions. The front fascia is dominated by the chrome grille and the headlamps with LED DRLs. The three-slat chrome grille enhances the width of the car. The interior is said to be more luxurious and tech-laden. The dashboard of the Passat will feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster (borrowed from the Audi TT), heads-up display and tweaked infotainment system.
Powering the Volkswagen Passat will be a 2.0-litre TDI diesel motor that puts out 177 HP of power. This oil burner comes paired to a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The new Volkswagen Passat will rival the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Skoda Superb in the Indian market. The new Passat is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh and is being locally assembled via the CKD route.
