Since 1914, Harley Davidson has come a long long way but it is interesting to note that over the last 100 years, the American cruiser maker has come up only with 7 distinct engine families. The next one is aptly named Milwaukee-Eight and the first pictures have leaked online.

The leaked pictures give away more than just the new engine’s name. The 107 on the crankcase denotes the engine’s displacements in cubic inches and it translates into 1,753 cc.

MCN reports that the engine will sport 8 valves (4 per cylinder) and that could also be a reason for the Milwaukee-Eight brand name. Even though the new engine is designed to comply with the current and future emission norms, it is reported to employ old school pushrod actuation and air cooling to keep with the tradition.

The performance figures of the new engine are kept under wraps. The new big twin is expected to make its debut on a new Harley Davidson cruiser in 2017. The new engine will eventually power the company’s future top-end cruiser lineup.

How do you like the new engine name? To help you decide, here are the names of previous HD engines – Flathead, Knucklehead, Shovelhead, Panhead, Evolution, and Twin Cam.
