Yamaha YZF-R15 is a 150 cc segment motorcycle which was first launched back in 2008. It is one of the company’s more prominent models in India. The R15, a fully faired sportsbike received its facelift in 2011 when it was christened YZF-R15 V2.0.

All-new generation R15 was launched in Indonesia earlier this year, and now it has been launched in Thailand. At the Indonesian launch, Yamaha MotoGP riders, Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales rode the bike on to the stage, marking its global debut, while at the Thailand launch, it was only Maverick Vinales in attendance.

Yamaha R15 V3 Engine
Last year, in an interview with a newspaper, Yamaha confirmed that the new R15 will be much more powerful, faster, refined, and feature-rich than ever before. This is what Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt Ltd (YMRI) told the newspaper – “The R15 will become better in its next iteration, however, no details can be shared as to what would exactly the specifications be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety. We also want to extract as much as possible from a motorcycle to give maximum value-for-money for our products.”

With the cat finally out of the bag, the engine specs are no longer a mystery. New Yamaha R15 is powered by a completely new 155.1 cc single cylinder liquid cooled 4 stroke SOHC engine. This engine is mated to a 6 speed transmission. Power output stands at 14.2 kW (20 PS) / 10000 rpm while torque output stands at 14.7 Nm / 8500 rpm. This means, compared to the R15 V2, the new R15 V3 delivers 3 PS more, and is now the most powerful bike in the segment (Suzuki GSX 150 delivers 19 PS). Fuel delivery system continues to be FI, and so is the clutch, but both have been updated thoroughly to deliver a more refined and dynamic riding experience. On top of all this, it also gets Slipper Clutch.
