Its 2.0-Litre TSI Motor Puts Out 15PS/20Nm More Power Than The One In The Octavia RS

In December last year, we reported that Skoda has taken the wraps off the Octavia RS. The Czech carmaker did confirm that it will be launched in India sometime in 2017. Now though, at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), Skoda has unveiled the most powerful production-spec version of the Octavia ever, the Octavia RS 245.

It is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI engine that belts out 245PS of power and 370Nm of torque. That’s 15PS and 20Nm more than the Skoda Octavia RS, housing the same petrol engine. Unlike the Octavia RS, which will be available either with a diesel engine or a petrol motor, the RS 245 will be petrol-powered only. However, customers will be able to choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch auto box. The setup is enough catapult the car from naught to 100kmph in a mere 6.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.

The RS 245 is based on the facelifted version of the Octavia, which was unveiled in October last year. To tame all that oomph, Skoda has given the RS 245 special sports chassis and an electronically regulated limited-slip differential. Compared to the normal models in the Octavia range, the RS 245 is lower to the ground by 15mm and gets a wider rear track by 30mm. The car gets 19-inch gloss-black alloy wheels as standard and comes with adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) as an optional extra.

We think that Skoda can skip launching the Octavia RS in India and bring in the RS 245 instead. You might argue that the RS gets an option of a diesel engine as well. But, if you want a diesel-powered Octavia, you are better off with a standard one as there is no extra power available in the RS avatar. So, all you’re paying extra for are a bunch of cosmetic updates. Skoda, are you listening?
