Ford has revealed the updated Everest for the Australian market and the same will come to India as the Endeavour in 2019. While the Everest gets many new features including a whole new engine, the Endeavour in India may be offered with only some of those.

What we are definitely getting is the updated design. Yeah, look closely and you will see that the grille has been redesigned, the older three-part look has made way for a sleeker setup. The headlamps have also been given a refresh; the LED DRLs are now longer. The bumper also gets a subtle change, especially around the lower insert. The spokes on the alloy wheels look sleeker (though they are never static in the photos available), and more importantly are now 20 inches in diameter as compared to the 18-inchers currently on offer in India.

Ford claims the interior of the new Everest/Endeavour will feel more luxurious now because of more soft-touch surfaces around the cabin and a new ebony (black) theme. The SYNC 3 8.0-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system has been updated with better smartphone connectivity options including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Everest in many markets will also be offered with new autonomous city braking tech, with front vehicle and pedestrian detection systems.

The biggest talking point about the new Everest, however, is the addition of a new diesel engine range. Essentially the same engine that was added to the Ranger pickup truck range internationally, on whose platform the Everest/Endeavour is based, this 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder motor can be had in two configurations. The more interesting twin-turbo variant develops 213PS of maximum power and 500Nm of peak torque and is paired to a new 10-speed automatic transmission! In comparison, the existing 3.2-litre, turbocharged diesel in the Endeavour develops 200PS/470Nm. Ford also claims to have improved the suspension setup for better on- and off-road comfort.

The refreshed Endeavour, when launched in India, will not have much to borrow from the Everest. It will feature the new grille and the bumper, but the 20-inch wheels may not make it here because of the road conditions in India. And since ebony/black interiors are not popular with customers in India, Ford is expected to stick with the black-and-beige it currently offers here. SYNC 3 was already on offer here, though the addition of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will certainly increase its appeal.

The autonomous safety tech will certainly be given a miss to keep costs competitive. The better suspension may be offered if it makes the ride better for Indian conditions. What will certainly not make its way to India is the new 2.0-litre engine as Ford India does not have any incentive to do so. The 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre engines can be modified with minimal costs to comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. Also, since the company sells only about 500 units of the Endeavour a month, it doesn’t make sense to launch it with a whole new engine.
