Bengaluru-based artificial intelligence startup Niki.ai develops world’s first cricket chatbot

Hyderabad: Stuck in a meeting, but your favourite team is playing a critical Indian Premier League (IPL) match? No problem, as you can carry on with your busy schedule and still follow the IPL, ball by ball, using an app.

Niki.ai, a Bengaluru-headquartered startup, which has built an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot (a computer programme designed to simulate conversation with human users, especially over the Internet) that lets you do online purchasing on chat, has launched a new feature cricket chatbot.

You can now ask Niki on the chatbot for IPL updates and Niki will respond with the live score. All a user needs to do is to just tap the ‘cricket’ option anytime, anywhere and he/she will be teleported to the stadium. Niki.ai claims that the updates are faster than any other website out there and even works seamlessly on 2G networks.

“We all love cricket and our users wanted an onthego access to IPL scores. Hence, we built it our way, a chatbot to keep them updated on IPL. If you ask Niki for the score, she comes up with it in a flash of a second. Moreover, she does not spam you nor show you ads,” says Nitin Babel, CoFounder of Niki.ai.

Unilazer Venture, a Mumbai-based private equity firm promoted by Ronnie Screwvala, had in October 2015 made a seed round funding in the one-year-old startup, with a commitment of up to Rs 5 crore. Niki.ai offers other services like cab booking, mobile recharge, utility bill payments like electricity, postpaid and DTH and ordering a burger from Burger King, all on a simple chat interface.
