Pune, India : Praj Industries, a global process solutions company, has secured Procurement Excellence Award in the category of“Best Green Procurement Initiative of the Year”. Mr. Girish Rishi, CEO of JDA Software and chief guest of the function, presentedthis award to Praj officials at the 11th Express Logistics & Supply Chain (ELSC) Conclave held in Mumbai.

ELSC is one of Asia’s largest end-to-end logistics & supply chain conference. It includes workshops, interactive panel discussions, expert speakers from the industry, case studies, etc.

Standing true to Praj's ethos of sustainability, Praj’s supply chain management team started Green Procurement initiative in 2015with the aim of raising quality standards of the biochemical processing industry. The initiative is based on core themes of enhanced legal compliance and safety at work, reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and natural resources like water, energy and paper, efficient operations, waste management, including wastewater treatment. Starting with 6 suppliers in the maiden batch, today, more than 100 suppliers ranging from mid-sized companies to SME enterprises are at various stages of green certification. Praj has ambitious plan of involving 100% of its tier Isuppliers in the green procurement programby 2020.

Commenting on this occasion, Mr PramodChaudhari, Executive Chairman of Praj Industries said, “Sustainable development is one of the pillars of Praj’s philosophy. Conserving our environmental resources is the need of the hour. I am happy with the initiative adopted by the team for green environment and the teamwork between Praj and our suppliers. This award will certainly set an example for other companies and motivate them to implement sustainable practices.”

Mr Harish Bhatia, CEO of Kamikaze B2B Media Services, organizers of the event commented on the occasion,“Winners were selected after a thorough evaluation by the ELSC jury consisting of several senior executives of various reputed companies.Praj has taken unique efforts to set a benchmark and as a result they have been chosen as winner in the Best Green Procurement Initiativecategory”.

This is the 2nd consecutive award won by Praj this year. Earlier in 2017, Praj wasrecognised by Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM) for the Best Supply Chain Management Practices award.
