The unprecedented openings of Baahubali 2 has reportedly emptied pockets of the masses, youth and family audiences as it garnered more than Rs 150 crore (net collections) in just two weeks in two Telugu states, leaving few films released subsequently high and dry and a distributor feels that they could waited till May-end.

After not-so-happening show of `Babu Baga Busy’, even the much-hyped `Radha’ couldn’t garner opening collections on par with Sharwanand’s earlier blockbuster `Sathamanam Bhavati’ and less said that better about other new releases like ‘Venkatapuram’ and `Rakshakabatudu’ as they couldn’t really set box-office on fire.

“It’s true that Baahubali 2 has dried up the budget of masses, youth and middle-class families since it grossed more than Rs 150 crore and still going strong riding on summer holidays. Rajamouli’s war epic has attracted viewers from 6 to 60 years and bound to impact collections of other new releases, maybe they should have waited till May-end instead of risking their chances” says distributor Ramakrishna.

However, leading producer BVSN Prasad says his latest cop story `Radha’ has garnered good openings and withstood Baahubali storm. “We shouldn’t compare weekend collections of `Sathamanam Bhavati’ and `Radha’ since the former was a typical family drama released during Sankranti holidays to attract family viewers, whereas our cop story was meant for youth and masses,” says producer Prasad and adds, “Radha withstood Baahubali juggernaut and drawing family audience, since the light-hearted entertainer is perfect outing for family this summer and it will be safe project for all’.

Even Baahubali 1 swept audience of their feet, before superstar Mahesh Babu `Srimanthudu’ in 2015 and diverted the attention of the viewers towards the tale of a rich guy who adopts a village and resolve its woes for his ladylove. “Mahesh Babu has committed fan following and stamina to change the direction of the wind towards his film, but it will not be easy for others,’ adds distributor Nagi Reddy.
