Nellore: Nellore Railway Station bagged the first place in cleanliness ranking in Vijayawada division and the SCR zone in implementing Swachh Bharat guidelines for making it clean and passenger-friendly.

Indian Railways, TNS Private Limited and IRCTC conducted a survey on cleanliness under ‘Swachh Rail and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ in selected 407 stations in India in which 75 are A-1 stations and 332 belonged to A-class category.

The survey was commissioned by the Environment & Housekeeping Management Directorate - Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, New Delhi and was conducted by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation through TNS India Private Limited in all the selected stations across the entire country.

IRCTC engaged TNS India Private Limited through competitive bidding for conducting Passenger Satisfaction Survey out of the five empanelled firms of Market Research Society of India. The primary audience for the survey was passengers of Indian Railways.

Additionally, porters and vendors on the platform or ticketed area and railway officials who are part of the Service Improvement Group (SIG) were also approached for their feedback.

For every A1 category station, 400 passengers were targeted for interview while in every A category station 300 passengers were targeted for interview. A three-member team visited each station and collected opinion from the stakeholders.

Nellore bagged place in top 10 stations across the country along with Bilaspur, Kota, Habibganj, Anand, Mysore, Vadodara, Madurai, Bharuch and Ernakulam.

Tirupati bagged 12th place in the zone and 3rd in the Guntakal division. According to a report released by the Indian Railways, Nellore station has got 702 points in cleanliness score by passengers.

“We have implemented guidelines of the Ministry for making the station clean and the success has been due to team work. We thank everybody in the station for their cooperation,” said Anthony Jairaj, Station Superintendent, while speaking to The Hans India.
