The victim went missing on May 17 from her maternal aunt's house at a village near Pul Prahladpur following which a earch operation was conducted. Locals found a girl lying unconscious near a railway track in the wee hours of May 18 and alerted the police.

She was rushed to the AIIMS where doctors informed the police of the sexual assault and a case was registered under IPC sections and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. However, it took a week for the girl to be identified as she was not in a condition to give a statement.

When the locals were questioned, the girl was said to have been seen with a teenager in the neighbourhood. Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal who met the girl at AIIMS stated that they are suspecting a gang rape. She further said that the girl has been brutally raped and according to doctors it will take her at least four months to recover.
