Hyderabad: A 24-year-old city student who went to the US to pursue his MS degree was stabbed to death by his Hyderabadi roommate. Police arrested the accused when he was attempting to shift the body in his car.

Gundam Sankirth (24) of Sultan Bazaar area was the elder son of G Vijay Kumar and Ramadevi. Sankirth finished his engineering from TKR College of Engineering, and left for the US to pursue higher studies. He had recently received an H1B visa. Sankirth was enrolled at University of New Haven and was staying with two other students at a flat in Quarry Oaks Apartment Complex at Colonial Village in Austin, Texas.

Sai Sandeep Goud Kurremula (27) of Hyderabad, who recently went to the US for MS programme, had moved in to Sankirth’s flat about 15 days ago through a consultancy. On Monday morning, at around 3 am (Central Time Zone), the police received a call on 911 and reached the Quarry Oaks Apartment Complex.

The police saw Sandeep and another man trying to put Sankirth in a car. Police found stab injuries on Sankirth’s abdomen and they immediately rushed him to Round Rock Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. Sandeep and his unidentified friend were detained for questioning.

During the interrogation, Sandeep’s friend reportedly told the police that Sankirth and Sandeep had a heated argument and Sandeep stabbed the former with a kitchen knife, in a fit of anger. Sandeep was arrested on charges of murder and shifted to the Travis County Jail.

The family members of Sankirth are waiting for information from their relatives in the US. “We do not know anything. All we know is what we read on the internet. Our relatives are there in US and they are going to claim the body. We just want to see our boy’s body,” said Sankirth’s parents, who are in a state of shock. Sankirth’s body is expected to arrive by Sunday.
