The East Zone Task Force police on Friday arrested three persons from the Uttar Pradesh’s Bawaria gang on charges of diverting the attention of public and stealing valuables from them.

Hyderabad: The East Zone Task Force police on Friday arrested three persons from the Uttar Pradesh’s Bawaria gang on charges of diverting the attention of public and stealing valuables from them.

The accused, Gopal alias Bhainsa (45), Ashok Kumar (24) and Jagdish alias Modi (42) of Shamli district in UP, were involved in eight cases of attention diversion and thefts at Kacheguda, Charminar, Chatrinaka, Gopalpuram over a period of five months.

The police said that Gopal, the prime accused, conducts recce and selects crowded places to commit offences. He diverts the attention of public near bus stations and railway stations, and meantime his associates take the opportunity to steal valuables like baggage.

The Task Force team has recovered 11 grams gold and Rs 29,500 cash from them. “They confessed to have committed hundreds of such offences at railway stations, but were never caught by the police,” said South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana.
