Kurnool (Alur): One Dakya Nayak, accompanied by his family members, doused himself with kerosene and tried to set himself ablaze in front of Alur Prohibition and Excise Station alleging harassment by the Sub-Inspector. Naik told this correspondent that the excise Sub-Inspector was harassing him with false cases.

Nayak said that the SI had seized his two-wheeler on the charges of transporting illicit liquor on October 9. He claimed that he was not involved in illegal transportation of liquor and he was wetting his land on the day his motorcycle was seized.He said he was eking his livelihood by driving an auto and he had purchased the motorcycle after taking a loan. He said that he cleared part of the loan after selling his auto and the financiers were mounting pressure on him to repay the balance amount. Even the registration process was not completed, he stated.

I am being called every day to the station after the vehicle was seized, but the SI, without releasing the motorcycle, is threatening me with dire consequences,” he alleged.Unable to bear the harassment, Dakya Nayak, along with his wife and three daughters, came to Excise Police Station and tried to set himself on fire. He threatened that his family members would die if justice was not done to him.Circle Inspector Madhava Swamy, who prevented Nayak from committing suicide, said: “There is nothing we can do as the Kurnool Squad Excise Police have registered the case. We can only intimate the higher-up about the incident.”
