5 motorists jailed for drunken driving
In a first of its kind, a court convicted five persons to simple imprisonment for drunken driving on a single day on Wednesday.Judge of Third Metropolitan Magistrate Court Ramya Chavala awarded three days imprisonment for four persons and slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 on each and two days imprisonment for one motorist and slapped a fine of Rs 2,500.

ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu said that motorists K Appala Naidu (39), K Suresh (23), G Dharma Raju (30), G Sridhar (42) and China Kumar (32) were caught while riding vehicles under the influence of alcohol under Gajuwaka Traffic Police Station limits in the past few days and their blood alcohol content was found about 300 mg/100 ml. Based on the traffic police report, Judge Ramya Chavala sentenced motorist for drunken driving.
Patrudu said the traffic police intensified the drive against the drunken driving by deploying the police at strategic points instead of regular traffic junctions. The drive will continue to instill fear among the drunken motorists.
