Hyderabad: Cyber crime sleuths on Wednesday arrested two employees of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and a civilian resorting to fraud by way of an unauthorised mutation of properties in the GHMC database.

The arrested include B Polaiah and M Lakhan Singh – both data entry operators at the GHMC and a private person Khaja Qutbuddin, who illegally got a property mutated in his name. Another accused, Jagadish, who works as IT programmer with GHMC is absconding, police said.

According to the police, Polaiah colluded with Jagadish and both of them enabled some defunct user IDs to access the GHMC database and made as many as 2000 unauthorised mutations without the knowledge of the officials concerned.

The fraudulent changes made by the gang caused serious loss and inconvenience to the genuine owners, while the accused charged huge amount from the beneficiaries and amassed lakhs of rupees, police said.

In this case, Khaja Qutbuddin purchased 220 yards of property out of 370 yards owned by Mohammed Abbas of Somajiguda in 2001. He later approached the gang and got the entire property mutated in his name.

Abbas was shocked to find out Qutbuddin’s name as the owner of the house in the unsold 150 square yards site. Suspecting some fraud, he lodged a complaint with the police. The investigators discovered the gang resorting to unauthorised mutation and arrested two of them.
