Attempt suicide over tiff with APTDC

Pithapuram: Worried over a trivial issue with AP Tourism Department officials, Yella Satyavati (60), Yella Dora Babu and Paketi Babu of Mangiturthi attempted suicide by consuming pesticide on Monday.

The tourism department developed Ramalayam in Pallapu street spending Rs 10.5 lakh in 2014. According to villagers, Paketi Babu installed a plaque with his parents Soma Raju and Satyavati's names inscribed on it in the temple on May 20. It is said that the developmental works were undertaken under the aegis of the Pekati family members.

Tourism department executive engineer Srinivas Rao ordered the removal of the plaque stating that no private persons names should be allowed for the works undertaken with government funds. The family members opposed the decision.
However, the palque was removed with the help of Circle Inspector B Appa Rao. Worried over the issue, the trio took the drastic step.

Initially, they were admitted to the government hospital in Pithapuram. Later, they were shifted to the government hospital in Kakinada. Yella Satyavati's condition is said to be critical.

Circle Inspector said, acting on a complaint made by tourism department officials, a cheating case was registered against Paketi Babu.“A few other cases will also be booked for interrupting government officials duties,” he added.
