Guntur: Tragedy struck at a marriage function as the father of the bridegroom and his relative were electrocuted while erecting a flexi board at Janapadu village under Piduguralla mandal of Guntur district on Monday.
According to Piduguralla Circle Inspector Hanumantha Rao, Israel (44) along with his nephew Akash (16) was erecting a 20-feet flexi board on the occasion of his son Koti’s marriage on Monday to congratulate the new couple near a church in Janapadu village.
While, they were erecting the flexi board, the iron rod of the flexi board came into contact with a live electrical wire. Israel and his nephew Akash died on the spot due to electrical shock. Another six youth who helped them to erect the flexi sustained injuries.
Two of them were seriously injured. The injured have been shifted to Vunnava Hospital at Piduguralla for treatment. A pall of gloom descended on the marriage party following the death of Israel and his nephew. Following the death of the father of the bridegroom, the marriage was postponed.
Bridegroom Koti is the elder son of Israel who was eking out livelihood as an agricultural labourer in the village. Israel is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.
Piduguralla Circle Inspector T Hanumantha Rao rushed to the spot and enquired about the incident. The police shifted the bodies of the deceased to the local government hospital for conducting the post-mortem. They registered the case and took up investigation.
