Kakinada: The Kakinada crime police arrested eight persons for smuggling and sale of ganja, sedative tablets, injections and cough syrups. They recovered Rs 2.03 lakh cash, 25 kg ganja, 386 cough syrup bottles, 535 sedative tablets, 18 injections, 10 syringes from their possession.

The arrested persons have been identified as Dasari Satyanarayana and Kankatala Venkateswara Rao of Angara village in Mandapeta mandal, Nanduri Satya Bhaskara Rao of Bhimavaram and Nadipudi Durga Prasad of Eluru in West Godavari,. Bejawada Ravi, Pemmadi Siva Prasad, Kondepudi Bhimaraju and Kampa Ramana, all residents of Kakinada.

Disclosing the details of the case, East Godavari SP Vishal Gunni on Wednesday said that the eight were engaged in sale of ganja and medicines illegally in their respective places.

He said they used to supply the cough syrup in bulk without any valid prescriptions. Among the accused, both Ravi and Siva Prasad used to fill half of cigarettes and cigars with ganja and sell them to clients, the SP said. Central Crime Station DSP A Pallapu Raju is heading the team investigating the case.
