Hyderabad: In yet another case of drunken driving leading to a ghastly accident, two persons were killed and four injured after a car rammed into a Metro Rail pillar near Chaitanyapuri on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 2 am when Sai Kumar Goud and five of his friends were returning home from a restaurant in a drunken condition. The police said all the occupants of the car had consumed liquor to celebrate Sai Kumar’s birthday.

M Chaitanya, 25, a resident of Mansoorabad was killed on the spot, while I Srinivas, 24, of Vanasthalipuram, died while being shifted to hospital. Chaitanya was working in Delhi Public School, while Srinivas was preparing for Group-I exams, the police said.

The injured were identified as Krishna Prasanna, Chakrapani and Chandra Reddy. They were admitted to a private hospital for treatment and the condition of Krishna is stated to be critical.

Another person, identified as Ganesh, who was sleeping on the road median, suffered grievous injuries due to the impact of the accident. He has been admitted to Osmania General Hospital. According to the police, the group had consumed liquor before heading to Santoshnagar in the car, which was registered in the name of Sai Kumar’s mother Madhavi. The accident occurred near Chaitanyapuri, just a few minutes away from the bar.

Sai Kumar lost control over the wheel while trying to avoid hitting a car that was taking turn towards left and hit the Metro Rail pillar, the police said.The police registered a case against Sai Kumar, arrested and sent him to judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
