Hyderabad: A builder, who cheated the prospective clients to the tune of Rs 1 crore, was arrested by Central Crime Station (CCS) on Thursday.

According to police, the accused Sunil J Sachdev (60) is running Gharonda Builders and Developers at Sultan Bazar for the past 25 years. However, he had reportedly incurred losses in the year 2010. And to cover his losses, he resorted to collecting huge money from prospective clients by promising them flats and entered into sale agreement. “He was showing private lands without any development agreement of land lords.

He collected huge money from a number of people and cheated an amount of Rs 1 crore,” said DCP Detective Department, Avinash Mohanty.

Acting upon the complaint of V Vyshnavi, a resident of Old Nallakunta, the police arrested Sachdev. She alleged that she along with her father approached the accused at their office in Sultan Bazar to purchase a flat at Casa Rosa Apartment in Padmarao Nagar and paid him Rs 38,20,000 in the year 2011. However, the accused failed to construct the apartment and duped them by way of ‘cheating tactics’.

During the investigation, it was found that subsequently, the accused cheated many aspirants of flats.

“The accused also took the amount of Rs 10 lakhs again from the complainant and made agreement of sale. However, he failed to handover the flat or to give back the amount. Since then the accused has been avoiding payment and cheated the complainant,” added the official.

The police registered a case under sections 418, 420,423, 425,463,468 IPC against the accused and took up investigation.
