Vijayawada: The city police arrested five bike lifters and took into custody two juveniles on charges of theft of 17 motorcycles worth Rs 7.5 lakh on Saturday.

The accused were identified as Sode Durga Prasad alias Prasad, 27 of Payakapuram, Salivendram Kalyan Reddy, 27 of Mangalagiri, Buddanti Nagababu, 25 of Ajit Singh Nagar, Nemalapuri Bhavani Prasad, 20 of Gulabithota and Maduri Mallesh, 24 of Sangareddy district in Telangana.

The first three were friends and involved in different offences. After return from jail, Prasad with the help of other, two stoles 10 bikes at different places in two cities. The city crime station police caught the three thieves and recovered motorcycles.

Bhavani Prasad wanted money for his vices and lifted a bike under Two Town police station limits. He was held at Kanakadurgavaradhi. Mahesh, a welder by profession, also stole four bikes to meet expenses of his luxury life. He was arrested at Sitara centre.

The two juveniles from Yanamalakuduru and Kamayyatopu have been working as painters and studying intermediate. They thought theft of bikes would be the easy way to earn money and lifted two bikes. They were taken into custody and motorcycles were recovered.
