Hyderabad: Gold worth 18 lakhs was seized from two passengers from Jeddah in separate flights during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Both passengers concealed the gold bars, weighing 612.7 grams, in specially made pocket in the undergarments.

According to airport authorities, based on profiling by the Customs Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport), three pieces of 24 KT gold (99.9% purity), weighing 612.5 grams, valued at Rs 18,71,187, was seized from two passengers arrived from Jeddah.

Both the passengers concealed gold bars on body in the secret pocket specially made on the undergarment, and passed through green channel of International Arrival Hall with an intention to evade payment of Customs duty.

In the past ten days a total of 3.4 kgs gold had been seized from various passengers landed by different flights originating from Middle East countries.
