Vijayawada: The city police here on Thursday arrested a four-member robbery gang for their alleged involvement in various cases and recovered Rs 4.20 lakh from their possession.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), the four members’ gang was arrested at Old Bus Station when they were moving suspiciously. During enquiry, the police found the four-member gang was cheating passengers by acting as auto drivers.

The police seized five cell phones and Rs 15,000 cash from them. The arrested are Y Ramu (New Rajeevnagar), Nagidi Srinu (Yanamalakuduru), Kattula Srinu and Jamili Siva (railway station limits).

The ACP said the four members gang picks up passengers at various centers in the city especially in night timings and change the route in the name of short-cut and loot the passengers after taking them to isolated areas.

In other incident, lorry cleaner Koppula Venkateswara Rao alias Nallodu was also arrested at Autonagar on charges of motor cycles theft.
According to police, he was a habitual offender and involved in various cases in the past.

Five vehicles were recovered from his possession. Besides, one U Sekhar was also arrested by Penamaluru police after receiving a complaint from his brother U Srinu, native of Poranki village. Sekhar had stolen Rs 1.20 lakh worth gold chain from his brother’s residence.
