Tirupati: The Chittoor police busted a case relating to kidnap of two red sanders smugglers – Selvam (27) and his brother Sathya Raj (25) from Salem district. Police arrested a home guard and his friends in the case.

According to Chittoor DSP N Subbarao, the home guard D Mohan Reddy of Chittoor is working at MR Palli police station in Tirupati. He had come to Chittoor Bus Stand from Tirupati on December 21 and seen the two smugglers waiting for Salem bus.

He threatened them and later brought them to his uncle’s house and put them under house arrest with his friends’ cooperation.

Later, he made a call to Selvam’s wife and mother over phone and demanded a ransom of Rs 2.5 lakh. When they came with money from Salem to Chittoor on December 22 Mohan Reddy did not release them.

The smugglers’ mother-in-law R Mallika lodged a complaint with the police over their kidnap. Acting on the complaint, police formed a special team and apprehended the home guard D Mohan Reddy and his friends. After separate inquiry, Selvam and Sathya Raja have confessed to police that they came for sanders smuggling. On their commitment, police booked a case on them and sent to
remand.
