A three-month pregnant woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in the bedroom at her parents’ home when they were out of station at Tadepalligudem of West Godavari district on Sunday night.

According to police, Uddanda Nageswara Rao and his wife Vijayalakshmi are residing in Tirumala Enclave apartment in Kondayya Cheruvu area of Tadepalligudem. They had two children.

Their elder daughter Lakshmi Sai Mounika (24) got married to Tirumalasetty Narendra Babu of Ongole on August 12 this year. Her father was a railway Employee, police said.

Narendra Babu is working as Software engineer in Bengaluru and after marriage, Mounika went to Bengaluru, On learning that their daughter was three months pregnant, the parents went to Bengaluru and brought her back to Tadepalligudem on November 21.

Later her husband Narendra also visited his mother-in-law’s house and stayed there and took her to doctors in Tadepalligudem for tests. After that, he returned to Bengaluru.

On Sunday, her parents went to Rajamahendravaram to attend a function. As there was no one in the house Mounika hanged herself with her chunni to the ceiling fan in the bedroom. The parents returned in the night from Rajamahendravaram and found their daughter dead and hanging to the ceiling fan.

The bereaved family members immediately informed the police. Before taking the extreme step, Mounika recorded a selfie video stating that she was going to commit suicide. “I do not like him (husband) and did not even want to see him. So I am committing suicide. Father and mother, bring all the material, ornaments and everything given to husband from my mother-in-law’s house,” she said in the recorded video.

Tadepalligudem CI MRLS Murthy reached the house and consoled the family members. A case has been registered in Tadepalligudem town police station, CI said on Monday. He said that Mounika committed suicide and her selfie video was seized from the spot. Investigation will be taken up in this regard, he stated.
