Hyderabad police solve Park Hyatt robbery case

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police solved Park Hyatt Hotel robbery case on Tuesday and arrested the accused, who was most wanted by various metropolitan city police across the country. The police recovered stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh.

The accused was identified as Jayesh Ravji Sejpal (46), a catering worker by profession. He hails from Vapi village of Valsad District, Gujarat. The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Anjani Kumar said, “Within a few hours of the offense, we identified the accused who committed theft in Park Hyatt Hotel.

He has been committing burglaries in star hotels for the last 20 years. So far, he committed as many as 30 burglaries in various star hotels in 13 States across the country.” He added, “Jayesh has mastered in deceiving people with his sugar-coated words.”

On March 5, Jayesh conducted a recce at Park Hyatt Hotel and identified the newly wedded couple who checked-in room no 312. In the afternoon hours of March 6, the accused approached the reception staff of Park Hyatt Hotel and posed himself as their relative of a newly wedded couple and inquired with the reception whether the guests in room no 312 checked out or not.

Then he waited in the lobby of Park Hyatt Hotel until the evening to make sure the victims went out. Then he called up the reception asked them for a duplicate key by masquerading himself as the occupant of the room. When the reception staff enquired for his identity, he revealed the original name of the guest of room no 312 as he already collected the same from the reception.

Then without thorough verification, the reception staff sent an alternative digital access card of room no 312 and handed over the same to the accused. Then, Jayesh entered into room decamped with the valuable gold and diamond jewellery.

The Commissioner said cases pending against him in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka. “He was arrested and imprisoned for several years in five different cases,” Anjani Kumar said.

The Commissioner requested the customers of the hotels to be careful while leaving jewellery and valuable items in the rooms. He suggested depositing the valuable with hotel management.

He was indulged in similar offenses at Novotel Hotel, Mercure Hotel, Park Plaza (Chandigarh), Marigold Hotel, Hotel Radisson (Punjab), Novatel (West Bengal), Hyatt Regency (Lucknow) and Hotel Radisson Blu (Haryana).
