A newspaper delivery boy succumbed to death after getting stuck between lift doors in a three-storied residential building at Kachiguda on Wednesday morning.

The 12-year-old boy took the lift to deliver the newspaper on the third floor but while returning to the ground floor, he got stuck in a narrow gap between two doors of the lift.

The incident took place around 7 am at the building of Chandresh Jain when Suri Venu, a resident of Chappal Bazar and a Class III student went to deliver the newspaper.

According to the police, Venu had taken up the part-time job two months ago from hawker Prakash, who employed him by promising a salary of Rs 1,000 a month.

During the investigation, the police found the CCTV footage through which they saw the boy exiting the lift, closing the door and later trying to enter it again.

The boy is learned to have been stuck for nearly an hour as the people tried to extricate the boy. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital at around 8 am, where he was declared brought dead.

A case has been registered under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Juvenile Justice Act against Prakash.
