Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has called in applications for  admissions in to the research programmes leading to the degrees of ‘Doctor of Science’ (PhD) and ‘Master of Science by Research’ MS (Research) for the academic year from July 2017 to June 2018 under regular / part-time / external schemes. Earlier, the Institute opened admissions in two phases, July and December. 

Hyderabad: Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has called in applications for admissions in to the research programmes leading to the degrees of ‘Doctor of Science’ (PhD) and ‘Master of Science by Research’ MS (Research) for the academic year from July 2017 to June 2018 under regular / part-time / external schemes. Earlier, the Institute opened admissions in two phases, July and December.

Selected candidates with appropriate qualifications will be eligible for half-time Teaching Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD as well as fellowships from other funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, NBHM, ICMR, ICAR, AICTE etc. Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview and/or test by the Selection Committees of the respective departments from time to time.

In fact, candidates with BE / BTech can apply to pursue PhD in Engineering/Sciences directly through the ‘Direct PhD’ programme. There is also an attractive provision of pursuing MS+PhD dual degree in Engineering through this programme.

Students applying to IIT Madras furthermore have the opportunity to carry out Joint PhD programmes between IITM & various reputed Foreign Universities like Deakin University, Australia, Queensland University of Technology, Australia, National University of Singapore, Singapore, RWTH Aachen University, Germany and Michigan State University, among others.
