IIlT-H launches research-industry co-innovation initiative
In a bid to extend its deep tech research and domain expertise in the industry, the International Institute of Information Technology, (IIIT-Hyderabad) announced the launch of “co-innovation models” of engagement with industry, bringing deep technology knowledge in research labs to come to bear on real world problems that industry is solving.
Hyderabad: In a bid to extend its deep tech research and domain expertise in the industry, the International Institute of Information Technology, (IIIT-Hyderabad) announced the launch of “co-innovation models” of engagement with industry, bringing deep technology knowledge in research labs to come to bear on real world problems that industry is solving.
Given IIIT-Hyderabad’s cutting-edge highly visible presence in research, this initiative is timely in keeping with the institute’s main vision of ‘research for knowledge’ and constructively engaging with the industry.
The new co-innovation model will allow companies’ engineers to build their products with inputs from IIIT-Hyderabad’s research centres by setting up innovation labs at the institute.
The companies will benefit from their access to research inputs and expert knowledge from the labs. While all IP will lie with the companies, publication rights will be held by the institute.
Prof VasudevaVarma, Dean R&D said, “The conventional model of engagement with industry was primarily commissioned research.
Very small class of industry problems fitted this mode as there could not be any dependencies on companies systems, data, or domain knowledge. These joint innovation models open a whole new range of problems that can now jointly be addressed”.
The co-innovation model will benefit companies creating new products, software services and well as non-IT services that require domain knowledge.
IIIT-Hyderabad’s research can be applied to new products, emerging technologies, prototypes and creating new solution models.
They can also leverage the institute’s domain knowledge on BOTS, natural language processing interfaces on existing as well as new products.
