Nellore: District Collector R Mutyala Raju said a bridge course started for weak students of 3-10 classes for special orientation on subjects like English, Physics and Mathematics. He paid surprise visits to Anganwadi centres at Jakir Hussain Nagar, Vaikunthapuram and Ranganayakulapet here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that they are taking measures to rectify shortfalls in the system of instruction for improving quality and results. He said the summer crash course has been started in 6 municipalities and Nellore city for backward students as they were not showing good performance in some subjects. More than 630 teachers have voluntarily come forward to teach during summer vacation for 40 days and 20,801 students enrolled for the course so far, he added.

The Collector said lessons were prepared by expert teachers to ensure students understand the subjects. Seeing efficacy of the course for improving standards of the children, the Collector said the bridge courses would be replicated in the mandals. He explained that Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu assured of funding support either from the government or from service sector for taking up the activity.

He said they were providing quality and nutritious food at Anganwadi centres besides teaching both Telugu and English to the children. ICDS in-charge Project Director P Haritha was also present.
