62 higher educational institutions granted full autonomy; UoH, JNU among the list

University of Hyderabad and JNU are among the 62 higher educational institutions which have been approved full autonomy.

The decision was taken at a UGC meeting on Tuesday and the move will enable the selected institutes to decide their admission procedure, fee structure and curriculum, among others.

Under the Autonomous Colleges Regulation, five central universities, 21 state universities, 26 private universities and 10 other colleges were granted autonomy.

The central universities which have maintained high standards of excellence and granted autonomy include - Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), University of Hyderabad and the English and Foreign Languages University.

The state universities include University of Jammu, Andhra University, Anna University, Jadavpur University, Algappa University, Utkal University, Kurukshetra University, Guru Nanak Dev University, Osmania University, National University of Law, University of Mysore, University of Madras, and Punjab University among others.

The private institutions selected by the UGC for the autonomous status include Sonipat and Pandit Deen Dayal Petroleum University and OP Jindal Global University.
