This is the season to party and we all overextend our palate. After the Christmas weekend detox yourself and get ready for the New Year extravaganza. Here are a few recipes that will help you to boost your immunity and get you back on the party train

Gondh
Gondh (edible gum derived from the bark of tree known as tragacanth gum or Dragon gum ) and Peepramul (derived from the family of ginger root) make for an alternative medicinal supplement from the home kitchens of India during winter.

Just a spoonful of both these mixed with cow’s ghee at breakfast generates warmth to the body, strengthens the back and prevents stiff joints.

Ingredients:
Peepramul powder 1 tbsp
Gondh crystals coarsely grounded 1 tbsp
Cow’s ghee (liquid form) 2 tbsp

Method:

  • Coarsely ground the gondh in a grinder. Mix gondh with peepramul.
  • Pour hot ghee over it and mix well. Put it in an air-tight container and have 1 tablespoon with breakfast.

Kashmiri kahwa
Keep yourself warm and recharged throughout the day by sipping on some piping hot kahwa.

Ingredients:
Cinnamon stick 1
Organic honey ½ tsp
Cardamoms 2
Saffron 2 to 3 strands
Clove 1
Water 2 cups
Peeled chopped almonds 3-4 flakes

Method:

  • Boil all ingredients except almonds in water till it comes to half of its consistency and strain. Garnish with almonds. Serve hot.

Carrot, beetroot, ginger root and mint drink
Boost your blood cells with this beverage and prevent the throat and chest blockage.

Ingredients:
Carrot 100 gms
Beetroot 50 gms
Freshly grated ginger ½ tsp
Juice of half a lemon
Mint leaves 5 – 6
Rock salt to taste

Method:

  • Juice the carrot, beetroot in a juicer
  • Add the lemon juice a pinch of rock salt mix well
  • Garnish with mint leaves and grated ginger
  • Drink this any time of the day.

Amla (Indian Gooseberry ) fresh turmeric chutney
Spice up your life and chase the sniffles away by incorporating amla and turmeric root chutney in your diet.

Ingredients:
Fresh turmeric 250 gms
Amla 250 gms
Salt and lemon to taste

Method
Wash the turmeric root and ginger root thoroughly and peel the turmeric
Grind the amla, turmeric root, salt and lemon in a grinder and make a paste.


Ginger lemon pickle
Fill two needs with one deed, get rid of your joint pains and tingle your taste buds with a ginger lemon pickle.

Ingredients:
Ginger 250 gm
Lemons 3
1 chilli (optional)
Rock salt

Method:
Cut ginger into thin slices. Marinate in salt, chilli and lemon juice and have it with your lunch and dinner.
